► In Conversation at 2:00 pm: Artist Sarah Amos joins us from Vermont, where she just received the Vermont Prize, awarded by Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, Burlington City Arts, The Current, and Hall Art Foundation. Phong H. Bui, artist, curator, and co-founder and publisher of The Brooklyn Rail was the Special Guest Juror for the Vermont Prize. Amos will talk about her history as a Master Printmaker at Tamarind and the Vermont Studio Center, as well as her journey in pioneering her own studio practice.
Describing Amos’s work, Phong H. Bui said, “I find that her pictorial strength, infused with the inventive application of material, evokes a wonderful synthesis of form and matter. Her abstractions deploy post-Cubist collage with originality of thought and materiality. Each work asserts its monumentality while maintaining a sense of intimacy, and calls forth particular places or experiences, while suggesting deep symbolic significance of sensation and memory.”
